David Haye was too scared to fight Vitali Klitschko

Vitali Klitschko’s manager claims David Haye dodged a fight against the Ukrainian as he was too scared to take him on.
Haye came out of retirement this month when he announced a controversial grudge match against fellow Londoner Dereck Chisora that will take place at Upton Park on July 14.
The fight, which has had to be sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation as neither fighter holds a British licence, has been widely condemned within the sport.
Brothers in arms: Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko were in London for the premiere
The German Boxing Federation has denounced the bout and the World Boxing Council have vowed to expel anyone from its organisation who is involved in the contest.
According to Bernd Boente, manager of both Klitschkos, Haye was offered the chance to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitali in September but instead chose to take the ‘easier’ option of taking on Chisora.
‘There was a contract from us for (Haye) to fight Vitali in September but he chose to fight Chisora instead because it’s an easier task,’ Boente said.
‘I think he never really wanted to fight Vitali. The guy is always talking. He barks like a dog and he does that because he is mostly afraid.
Haye has a long-running rivalry with the Klitschkos, who have dominated the heavyweight division for a large part of a decade.
The 31-year-old has goaded the Ukrainians by launching a phone application in which he beheads a fighter widely thought to be one of the brothers and he also once wore a t-shirt that depicted him holding aloft the severed heads of the famous heavyweight pair.
Face off: David Haye (left will fight Dereck Chisora on July 14 in London
Haye’s only fight against one of the brothers – last July’s clash against Wladimir – ended with a significant points defeat for the Londoner – one he partly blamed on a broken toe.
The controversial former WBA champion has always claimed he is determined to unify the division by beating both brothers but that looks very unlikely now as Wladimir insists he will not fight him again and Vitali looks set to retire in October if he is elected to Ukraine’s parliament.
‘I don’t think it (Haye-Vitali) will happen,’ Boente added.
‘It will definitely not happen in September because we are already talking to a couple of different opponents for then and it is too close for Haye to fight him after his fight against Chisora.
‘Wladimir will never fight him again. Why should he? There are no questions left for him to answer and Vitali… If he is elected in October he will quit his career, for sure.’
The German Boxing Board has written to the European Boxing Union (EBU) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) condemning the Upton Park fight, which was set up after Haye and Chisora brawled following the latter’s defeat to Vitali in February.
Film stars: The Klitschko brothers
The BBBoC has also strongly condemned the fight, but organisers insist the bout is legal and claim 20,000 tickets had already been sold.
Wladimir, speaking at the London premiere of the film Klitschko, added his objection to the fight, saying: ‘It’s a contest between two guys that have no licence and are fighting on British soil under a licence from Luxembourg. It’s not even a fight.
‘I think this is a story of a fight between two losers, two people who have lost to the Klitschkos.’
Boente was stronger in his condemnation, adding: ‘It is a freak show.
“It’s tough for this sport. It’s only for the money. This is the entertainment business, yes, but it should not be allowed.
‘The only reason that this fight is happening is because they fought each other in a press conference in Munich. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
‘It sets a very, very bad example for kids. It more or less tells you – do the most horrible thing and you will get the most money for it. That is the message for the kids.’
The film, which charts the lives of the brothers from their humble background in Ukraine to their current status as super stars, is a source of pride for Vitali.
The 40-year-old said: ‘It’s about the dream of two boys. They have a dream and they work a lot and hard and one day the dream comes true.’

CSU’s James Named FCS DB to Watch in 2012
by admin on May.21, 2012, under Other
CHARLESTON, SC -
Kickoff of the 2012 football season is still more than three months away, but Charleston Southern cornerback Charles James is already receiving recognition. On Monday, James, a redshirt senior, was named one of ten FCS defensive backs to watch by The Sports Network.
James was the only Big South player named to the list, which was led by four selections from the Southland Conference, and one each from the Northeast Conference, Southern Conference, Southwestern Athletic Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, and Missouri Valley Conference. The Philadelphia based site picked players who combine speed, power and the ability to get into position to make plays.
James got his hands on six interceptions in 2010 to tie Philip Ashley’s CSU single-season record, and managed to come up with two more last year en route to earning a spot on the First Team All-Big South Defense. The Jacksonville, Florida native led the 2011 Buccaneers with seven pass breakups and nine pass deflections, and finished third on the club with 66 tackles and 40 solo stops. James was at his best against some of the league’s top receiving threats, as he held Liberty standout Chris Summers without a catch a year after nabbing three picks versus the Flames. The Mandarin High School product sits just one interception behind Ashley for the program’s career-lead, and will look to continue to make an impact in special teams, as he led CSU with 185 punt return yards in 2011, 30 of which came on a touchdown versus Wesley on October 1.
CSU opens its season on September 1 with a rivalry matchup against The Citadel at Johnson Hagood Stadium. To view The Sports Network’s full write up, click here.

Paralympics: Oscar Pistorius rivalry excites Singleton
by admin on May.21, 2012, under Other
Amputee sprinter Jerome Singleton says his rivalry with Oscar Pistorius “is as big as ‘Muhammad Ali v Joe Frazier” ahead of their
100m duel at the London Games.
The American beat the reigning Paralympic champion Pistorius at last year’s World Championships in New Zealand but claims the ‘Blade Runner’ is like the “brother you want to beat”.
Singleton tells BBC Sport’s Matt Slater that amputee sprinting is currently “at a whole new level and competitors have a moral obligation to put on a great games”.

Missouri Rep. rants about ‘the dreaded, disgusting Jayhawk symbol’
by admin on May.21, 2012, under Other
“Madam Speaker, I’m of course referring to the effort by some to affix the dreaded, disgusting Jayhawk symbol onto our Missouri license plates. Madam Speaker, in this state we brew the beer that the world drinks; we build the fighter planes that keep the world free; we raise the food that the world eats; and we raise Tiger fans. Madam Speaker, I was raised as one of those Tiger fans. To me there’s no sweeter sounds than a good M-I-Z-screw-K-U chant.
Madam Speaker, there not nights that my town is happier than when those folks from the west have come into our community and in the Hearnes Center, Mizzou Arena we sent them whimpering back across the border. Madam Speaker, I would oppose an effort to affix that symbol to our license plates under pretty much any circumstance.
But it is exceptionally insulting this year. Madam Speaker, this year is the year that those folks to the west, after 120 years of competition, have decided that they no longer wish to meet our football team on the field of athletic competition. Now, to be honest, after the beat down that we’ve given them the last couple of years, I understand their decision. It is also the year that they’ve decided their basketball team, which they think very highly of, but if the year that they can’t find the heart, they can’t find the courage to play us, is the year that they want to add something to our license plate? I say, not if this body has anything to do with it.
Madam Speaker, I want to prevent the dreaded Jayhawk, the disgusting Jayhawk form being affixed to our beautifully crafted state license plates. I’m a reasonable person, though, Madam Speaker, and I tell you what: I think we should pass this amendment, and, if in the next 365 days, the Jayhawks find the courage to dig down in themselves and actually play us, then, Madam Speaker, I personally will file legislation to repeal this amendment. But if they’re not willing to stand and play us, then, Madam Speaker, I say M-I-Z-no-KU.”
